The Japanese Government expanded the state of emergency to the entire nation as new COVID-19 cases continue to spread. The legally non-enforceable measure urges residents to stay home and puts political and social pressure on much of public life to be closed down. The measure will be effective until May 6 for all of Japan, the same expiration date as for the previous emergency declaration limited to seven prefectures.
